The world's first trillion-dollar bank may soon be within reach.

Shares of JPMorgan Chase have surged 21% over the past three months, driven by a rebound in trading and advisory revenue that propelled the Wall Street powerhouse to record profitability.

Led by Chief Executive Officer Jamie Dimon, the largest U.S. lender saw its market capitalization reach $965 billion at Friday's close.

In a recent research note, Wells Fargo projected that JPMorgan is poised to cross the $1 trillion valuation threshold on the back of multiple operational tailwinds.

Maintaining an "Overweight" rating, Wells Fargo lifted its price target on JPMorgan to $390 from $375, implying more than 7% upside from Friday's close.

"JPMorgan’s industry-leading ability to invest for superior growth should help it not only cross the $1 trillion mark, but potentially reach $2 trillion in market value over the next seven to eight years," Wells Fargo analyst Mike Mayo wrote in a note to clients.

"Over the past decade, JPMorgan has demonstrated premier execution on both offense and defense—consistently expanding market share across core businesses while optimizing its portfolio structure," Mayo added.

"Its earnings have proven more resilient than global peers, underpinned by what its CEO defines as a 'fortress balance sheet.'"

According to its second-quarter earnings release last month, the lender delivered the highest quarterly net income in its history at $21.1 billion, a 41% increase year-over-year.

The performance was anchored by an explosive surge in equities trading, where revenue soared 86% to $6.0 billion—surpassing the most bullish analyst estimates and lifting total markets revenue to a record $12.1 billion.

A $2 Trillion Valuation in Reach?

Wells Fargo further noted that as JPMorgan continues to deploy capital into high-growth franchises, a $2 trillion valuation over the next seven to eight years remains well within reach.

"Reaching $2 trillion in market cap will be fundamentally driven by tangible earnings-per-share (EPS) growth, rather than multiple expansion alone," Mayo wrote, referring to valuation metrics like price-to-earnings ratios.

"JPMorgan has built a self-reinforcing flywheel that allows its return on tangible common equity (ROTCE) to consistently outpace its cost of capital," Mayo explained.

He noted that the bank reinvests these excess returns into its physical branch footprint, talent acquisition, financial technology, and international expansion.

In turn, these investments translate into broad-based market share gains across deposits, credit cards, capital markets, and traditional banking operations.

"JPMorgan is pursuing growth across every vertical, and deposits are no exception," Mayo said.

Wells Fargo's bullish stance aligns with the broader Wall Street consensus. According to LSEG data, 15 out of 26 analysts covering JPMorgan currently maintain a "Buy" or "Strong Buy" rating on the stock.
