Global Market Indices Update - 16 June 2026
U.S. equities joined a global rally on Monday as both the U.S. and Iran confirmed they had agreed on the text of a memorandum of understanding and were ready to sign.

At Monday’s close, the S&P 500 rose 1.65% to 7,554.29; the Nasdaq Composite surged 3.07% to 26,683.94; and the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.92% to 51,671.03 — a new all-time high.

A broad swath of high-profile tech names — including SpaceX, Micron, Seagate, Western Digital, SanDisk, AMD, Teradyne, Lam Research, and Applied Materials — hit all-time highs on the session.

SpaceX surged another 19.6% in its first full trading day, pushing its market cap above $2.5 trillion. The single-day gain added $412.5 billion in market value — a figure only 33 listed companies in the world can match in total. Musk said Monday he would be “surprised” if SpaceX revenues did not reach $1 trillion by 2031.

According to the Forbes Real-Time Billionaires list, Musk’s net worth rose more than $160 billion on Monday to $1.3 trillion — equal to the combined wealth of the world’s second through sixth richest individuals, or 8.8 Warren Buffetts. FTSE Russell is expected to add SpaceX to its index on June 26, with MSCI likely following on June 29, and Nasdaq 100 inclusion possible 15 trading days after listing.

With tech leading the charge, Morgan Stanley’s chief U.S. equity strategist Mike Wilson predicted additional upside from rotation into economically sensitive sectors that lagged during the conflict. JPMorgan strategist Mislav Matejka agreed, calling a cyclical tilt “the winning strategy through year-end” as geopolitical tensions ease and earnings remain stable.
