Market Analysis
U.S. stocks closed mixed on Wednesday as optimism over Middle East de-escalation kept the Dow at a fresh record high, while a post-earnings selloff in SpaceX and AMD weighed on the tech sector and snapped the Nasdaq's winning streak. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 263.24 points, or 0.49%, to 54,349.12. The S&P 500 slipped 12.97 points, or 0.17%, to 7,723.55, while the Nasdaq Composite fell 221.55 points, or 0.83%, to 26,363.44.
Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister Gharibabadi said a deal with Oman on commercial vessel passage through the Strait of Hormuz is close to being finalized, with both the northern lane controlled by Iran and the southern lane near Oman set to be temporarily closed under the arrangement.
Earlier in the week, markets rallied as bets on a U.S.-Iran peace deal drove oil prices and Treasury yields lower, easing inflation concerns and reducing Fed rate-hike expectations. However, investor patience appeared to be wearing thin on Wednesday.
"This rally has been a straight-up rocket ship — we haven't had a chance to breathe," said Kenny Polcari, Chief Market Strategist at Slatestone Wealth. "There's been some progress, but the market's attitude now is: until you show us something real, we're not buying it anymore. How many times have we been jerked around in the past four months?"
On the economic data front, ADP's National Employment Report showed that private-sector job growth slowed in July. The data is part of a series of labor market releases this week, ahead of Friday's official nonfarm payrolls report. Recent data broadly suggests the U.S. labor market remains stable, though the Iran war — which began in late February — continues to fuel concerns about inflation and the Fed's policy response.
According to the CME FedWatch Tool, markets now price the probability of a September Fed rate hike at 54.9%, down from 58.3% a week ago.

Institutional Views
BlackRockSELECTIVE
Maintains a selective overweight on equities but flags rising dispersion risk. With the Dow at record highs and the Nasdaq diverging, BlackRock recommends focusing on quality earnings compounders in AI infrastructure and healthcare. Cautions that any reversal in Hormuz diplomacy could reignite inflation and compress multiples quickly.
UBSBULLISH
Raises S&P 500 year-end 2026 target to 8,000 on stronger-than-expected Q2 earnings season, with 85%+ beat rate. Remains Overweight U.S. equities and upgrades Asia ex-Japan to Overweight as Middle East de-escalation reduces energy cost headwinds. Expects Fed to cut rates twice in H2 2026 as oil declines ease CPI, providing additional tailwind for risk assets.
J.P. MorganCONSTRUCTIVE
Turns more cautious on near-term tech momentum following SpaceX and AMD post-earnings selloffs. Recommends trimming high-multiple tech names and rotating into defensive growth: pharma (LLY, AMGN), gold miners (GDX), and dividend-paying industrials. Keeps Overweight on global equities overall but lowers conviction on pure-play AI hardware into the NVIDIA earnings event.
