NIKE Q1 Earnings Preview: Challenges Ahead, But Is a Breakout on the Horizon?
NIKE Inc. is set to release its first-quarter fiscal 2025 results on October 1, with analysts projecting year-over-year declines in both revenue and earnings. The company is expected to report a 10% drop in revenue to $11.6 billion and a 45.7% decrease in earnings per share, reflecting challenges in lifestyle product sales and weaker performance in key markets like Greater China. In addition, digital sales are expected to remain soft, as consumer spending on discretionary items continues to be pressured by inflation and higher interest rates.

From my perspective, while NIKE remains a dominant player in the global athletic goods industry, its short-term outlook appears to be weighed down by several factors. The lifestyle category, which includes popular lines like Jordan, has struggled after years of strong growth. This weakness is compounded by macroeconomic headwinds, especially in Greater China, where the promotional environment is challenging, and consumer traffic has been unpredictable.
In contrast, I do see some positive aspects in NIKE's strategy that could support its long-term growth. The company’s focus on inventory management and strategic pricing should help protect margins, even as revenues face pressure. Additionally, NIKE’s continued investment in product innovation and its direct-to-consumer digital strategy enhance its operational efficiency and could lead to stronger results in the future once the current hurdles are addressed.
Technical Analysis: Currently, NIKE is in a daily downtrend, but there is potential for a breakout. If the stock can surpass the resistance level of $98.78, I believe there’s a strong chance it could push toward the $107 level, and possibly even reach $124. This would represent a significant upward move if market conditions align with the technical indicators.
