Foreign Investors Are Coming Back to China—And So Am I!

Hey everyone! It looks like global investors are warming up to China again, and it's hard not to notice. Hedge funds like Mount Lucas Management in the U.S. are getting bullish on Chinese ETFs, while GAO Capital from Singapore and Timefolio Asset Management in Korea are piling into Chinese blue chips. Even JPMorgan is showing confidence, grabbing nearly 40 million more shares of Ping An, pushing their stake to over 8%. That's a big move!

On October 7, we saw a dramatic deep V-shaped bounce in Chinese stocks. The Nasdaq Golden Dragon China Index initially dropped hard, but by the end of the day, it managed to eke out a small 0.07% gain. Even though the nonfarm payrolls report from the U.S. was stronger than expected, hinting that the Fed might pause further rate cuts, Chinese stocks showed resilience. This recovery shows that while there's volatility, the overall trend for Chinese equities is still looking up.

What's even more encouraging is the perspective from Mark Mobius, the legendary emerging markets investor. He's been vocal about how the Chinese government's stimulus is stronger and better timed than anyone expected. I agree with Mobius here. These efforts, like cutting reserve requirements for banks and supporting the property market, are clearly boosting investor confidence. However, if we want to see a sustained bull market, China will need to keep innovating and supporting the private sector, especially the tech companies.

For foreign investors, the big appeal is still how undervalued Chinese stocks are compared to the U.S. Even Abrdn pointed out that the current market offers more upside potential than downside risks, and funds like KBI Global Investors are saying if you don't have any China exposure, it's time to think about getting some.
