Hey everyone! Recently, Tesla’s stock has been on a crazy run, but... there are definitely some red flags we need to talk about. Tesla’s market cap surged by nearly $250 billion in less than a week, with the stock climbing over 29% last week and another 9% on Monday. It recently reached its highest point since April 2022. But here’s the catch—this rapid rise is starting to worry analysts. The stock has easily surpassed the target prices set by most of Wall Street, and some are urging caution.

A lot of this surge is tied to Elon Musk’s strong support for Trump, which could have some potential benefits for Tesla. But even the bulls are questioning whether this rally is sustainable. Adam Sarhan from 50 Park Investments is still bullish, saying the market’s reaction to Trump winning could bring benefits to Tesla, but he admits the stock’s rise feels overheated for now. The main issue is Tesla’s valuation. With a forward PE ratio of 104, it’s looking ridiculously expensive compared to the “Magnificent Seven” tech stocks, which average around 32, or traditional carmakers, which are in single digits. Tesla’s valuation is definitely stretched.

On the macro side, Trump’s policies could have a mixed impact. He’s promised to undo Biden’s electric vehicle policies, which could lead to higher tariffs, higher inflation, and more interest rate hikes—none of which are great for the EV market. On the flip side, some of Trump’s policies, like rolling back regulations on autonomous vehicles and supporting humanoid robot tech, could actually give Tesla a boost. But it’s really hard to quantify how much impact those policies will have.

So, what’s my take? I get why people are excited about Tesla, but I think the stock’s current valuation is pushing into bubble territory. There’s a lot of optimism around Musk’s political ties and potential policy changes, but right now, the market seems to be pricing in a bit too much. If you’re thinking about jumping in, it might be worth taking a step back and considering whether the stock is really worth these levels. The future of EVs is bright, but at these valuations? I’m not so sure.
