OpenAI's Big Move: 12 New Product Launches in 12 Days. What’s Coming?

Starting tomorrow, they’ll be rolling out everything from small tweaks to some huge new products. Among the big reveals expected: the much-anticipated text-to-video tool Sora, which has been in private testing but is now likely to be released by year-end. There’s also talk of a new reasoning model (maybe the full version of the o1 model?) and even a “Santa Claus” voice feature for ChatGPT’s voice mode—because who doesn’t want to chat with Santa, right?

 

Beyond these, there are a few speculative features floating around, like a possible GPT-4o image generation model and improvements to ChatGPT’s voice mode that could enable real-time internet searches or camera integration for real-world analysis. And if that wasn’t enough, ChatGPT will also be directly integrated into Apple’s iOS 18.2 system — which is expected to drop next week, if Apple sticks to its usual update schedule. This could be a huge milestone for OpenAI, giving it even more exposure to millions of iPhone users.

 

However, OpenAI is facing a legal battle. Elon Musk has filed for an injunction to halt OpenAI’s transition to a fully for-profit organization. Musk’s lawyers argue that OpenAI is depriving his company, xAI, of capital by requiring investors not to fund competitors like xAI. Musk also alleges that OpenAI, in partnership with Microsoft, is engaging in anticompetitive practices by sharing proprietary information and resources. If successful, this legal push could significantly impact OpenAI’s funding and slow down its expansion plans.
