Before Taking Office: Donald Trump’s Key Commitments

 

As the inauguration of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump approaches, attention turns to the promises he made during his campaign and how he plans to act on them once in office. Trump has emphasized that many of his proposed actions will begin immediately, setting the tone for his administration from day one.

According to plans, Trump will take the oath of office and deliver his inaugural address at noon on January 20. The day will also include a military parade, a luncheon, and a motorcade procession along Pennsylvania Avenue to the White House. In the evening, Washington will host several inaugural balls to mark the occasion.

 

Trump has made immigration reform one of his top priorities. He has pledged to undertake “the largest deportation plan in U.S. history” to remove illegal immigrants, particularly those with criminal records. Estimates suggest there are close to 11 million undocumented immigrants in the U.S., though only a fraction are associated with criminal activity. Trump has emphasized that this issue goes beyond cost, stating it is about "restoring the dignity of the U.S. border." He also plans to end birthright citizenship, arguing that "U.S. citizenship should not be a tool for illegal immigrants to gain status through their children," though such a move is expected to face significant legal hurdles.

 

On border policy, Trump has criticized the current administration’s approach as being too lenient. He has vowed to reverse what he calls "open-border policies" and reinstate measures like Section 42 to expedite deportations. At a rally, he reiterated his position: "We will restore order at the border and make America safe again."

In the realm of foreign policy, Trump has boldly declared that he will end the Russia-Ukraine war within 24 hours of taking office.

 

Trump’s economic agenda includes imposing a 25% tariff on imports from Mexico and Canada to protect American manufacturers. While he insists that this is essential to safeguard domestic jobs, critics warn it could lead to higher consumer prices and disrupt trade relations.

 

Energy policy is another cornerstone of Trump’s vision. He has vowed to increase domestic oil production, repeatedly stating: "Drill, drill, drill." Trump also plans to roll back the Biden administration’s electric vehicle policies, which he described as a "mandate" forcing consumers to adopt electric cars.

 

Additionally, Trump aims to revitalize the U.S. automotive industry, focusing on making cars “powered by American energy, supplied with American materials, and built by American workers.”

 

Trump has also promised to take swift action on social issues, including banning transgender women from competing in women’s sports. He has framed this as a matter of fairness, declaring: "I will 100% ensure that men are excluded from women’s sports—immediately, starting on day one."

 

Another controversial commitment is Trump’s promise to pardon individuals convicted in connection with the January 6 Capitol riots. He called these actions a way of “speaking up for America’s future” and vowed to implement a "major pardon plan" after reviewing all cases.

 

Trump’s agenda reflects sweeping changes across domestic, economic, and foreign policy spheres. With many of his promises slated to begin on day one, the world will be watching closely to see how his administration takes shape and whether his ambitious goals will translate into concrete outcomes.
