Netflix Q4 2024: Exceeding Expectations with Record Subscriber Growth
#Netflix’s fourth-quarter earnings report for 2024 exceeded Wall Street expectations, driving the company’s stock price up by over 14% in after-hours trading. The streaming giant reported a net income of $1.87 billion, up 102% year-over-year, and earnings per share (EPS) of $4.27, surpassing the expected $4.20. Revenue for the quarter reached $10.25 billion, a 16% increase year-over-year and higher than the anticipated $10.11 billion.
The company’s paid membership base grew by a record 18.9 million subscribers in Q4, bringing the total to 301.63 million globally. This growth was attributed to strong content performance, including the second season of “Squid Game,” the action film “Carry-On,” and live events such as the Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul boxing match and NFL Christmas Day games.
Netflix announced that starting in 2025, it will no longer report quarterly subscriber counts, instead focusing on revenue, operating margins, and engagement. The company will provide bi-annual engagement updates in February and July.
Outlook for 2025
Netflix raised its full-year revenue forecast for 2025 to between $43.5 billion and $44.5 billion, up $500 million from its previous estimate. The company plans to invest approximately $18 billion in content in 2025, up from $17 billion in 2024. Netflix’s priorities for 2025 include enhancing its core business with more series and films, developing live programming and games, and expanding its advertising capabilities.
Netflix remains optimistic about its growth potential, noting that it has captured only a small fraction of the global entertainment market.
