Stock Market
The S&P 500 closed down 28.39 points, or 0.47%, at 6039.31. The Dow Jones Industrial Average, which is closely related to the economic cycle, closed down 136.83 points, or 0.31%, at 44713.52. The Nasdaq, which is dominated by technology stocks, closed down 101.26 points, or 0.51%, at 19632.32. The Nasdaq 100 closed down 0.2%. The Nasdaq Technology Market Capitalization Weighted Index (NDXTMC), which measures the performance of the Nasdaq 100 technology industry components, closed down 0.6%. The Russell 2000 small-cap index, which is more sensitive to the economic cycle, closed down 0.25%.
The VIX index of fear rose nearly 1% to 16.55.
The Fed suspended rate cuts as expected, but the hawkish statement suppressed expectations of rate cuts. After the Fed's decision, the US stock market fell further to a daily low, with the Nasdaq falling more than 1% at one point. Powell's press conference was dovish, which narrowed the final decline of the US stock market, and the decline of US bonds and gold also narrowed

- The euro continued to fall to 1.04 against the US dollar, and the pound fell below 1.24 against the US dollar. At the end of the trading day, the decline narrowed and the pound turned positive. The Indian rupee continued to approach its historical low.
- The minutes of the Bank of Japan's December meeting showed that voting members discussed (raising interest rates to) a neutral rate. Japan's finance minister said he would cooperate with U.S. Treasury Secretary Benson on foreign exchange and other issues.
Cryptocurrency
$BTC , the largest market leader, tested the $103,000 mark before the Fed's decision, then fell and lost $102,000 again after the Fed's decision, and then rose again and broke through $104,000 as the decline of US stocks narrowed.
