On February 10th, according to disclosures from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), BlackRock, the world's largest asset management company, submitted its fourth-quarter holdings report (13F) as of December 31, 2024.

In the fourth quarter, BlackRock's total holdings were valued at $4.94 trillion, a nearly 2% increase from the previous quarter's total value of $4.76 trillion. The fund added 342 new stocks to its portfolio, increased holdings in 3,336 stocks, reduced holdings in 1,347 stocks, and cleared out of 176 stocks. The top ten holdings accounted for 28.17% of the total value. Among BlackRock's top ten holdings in the fourth quarter, large tech giants remained dominant.

In the top five holdings, $AAPL retained the top spot, with 1.123 billion shares valued at approximately $281.326 billion, representing 5.91% of the portfolio, a 2.72% increase from the previous quarter.

$NVDA  ranked second, holding 1.89 billion shares valued at approximately $253.763 billion, accounting for 5.33% of the portfolio, a 2.05% increase from the previous quarter.

$MSFT came in third, holding 576 million shares valued at about $242.88 billion, representing 5.10% of the portfolio, a 2.63% increase from the previous quarter.

$AMZN ranked fourth, with holdings valued at $151.07 billion, with respective increases of 3.20% from the previous quarter.

$META  was fifth, with holdings valued at $96.395 billion, with respective increases of 1.57% from the previous quarter.

The top ten holdings also included $AVGO , $TSLA , $GOOGL , $GOOG , and $LLY , all of which saw increases in holdings compared to the previous quarter. Notably, BlackRock increased its stake in $STRK  (formerly MicroStrategy, $MSTR) to 5%, a growth of 18.83% from the previous quarter.

Strategy is known as the world's largest corporate Bitcoin holder. This increase coincides with Strategy's rebranding, which emphasizes its focus and broad appeal, including strategies involving issuing debt and raising funds to purchase Bitcoin, and adopting a new logo that incorporates Bitcoin symbols.

While BlackRock already holds a significant amount of Bitcoin through the Bitcoin ETF-iShares (IBIT.US), this increase in holdings may indicate BlackRock's desire to indirectly expand its exposure to Bitcoin through its stake in Strategy.

According to data, BlackRock's Bitcoin ETF-iShares is the largest Bitcoin-related product, valued at $56 billion, with a market share of 48%. Meanwhile, Strategy temporarily halted Bitcoin purchases last week after buying Bitcoin for 12 consecutive weeks, acquiring 218,887 Bitcoin from October last year to January this year, worth over $20 billion, solidifying its position as a corporate Bitcoin holder.
Currently, Strategy holds 471,107 Bitcoin, worth over $46 billion. The company plans to resume Bitcoin purchases as part of its "21/21 plan," aiming to raise $42 billion over three years to increase its Bitcoin holdings. Despite gains in Bitcoin, Strategy's revenue in the fourth quarter of 2024 decreased by 3% year-on-year to $120 million, resulting in a net loss of $670 million.

Regarding changes in holdings, the top five acquisitions were Tesla, Amazon, Broadcom, Nvidia, and Apple.

The top five disposals included UnitedHealth (UNH.US), Coca-Cola (KO.US), ExxonMobil (XOM.US), Elevance Health Inc. (ELV.US), and Thermo Fisher Scientific (TMO.US).
