DeepSeek has become a global sensation, with its founder Liang Wenfeng potentially joining the ranks of the world’s top billionaires. Industry estimates place DeepSeek’s valuation between $1 billion and $150 billion. If the valuation reaches $150 billion, Liang’s net worth could hit $126 billion, surpassing NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang.

A Bloomberg survey of AI experts and startup founders suggests DeepSeek’s valuation could range from $2 billion to $30 billion. Even at this more conservative range, Liang, holding 84% of the company’s shares, would still rank among Asia’s top tech billionaires.

Some analysts are even more optimistic. Chanakya Ramdev, founder of Canada’s Sweat Free Telecom, believes DeepSeek could be valued at half of OpenAI’s $300 billion, making Liang’s wealth $126 billion. Rudina Seseri, founder of Glasswing Ventures, adds that DeepSeek’s current multi-million-dollar revenue could easily justify a valuation above $1 billion.

DeepSeek’s valuation is often compared to global AI leaders. OpenAI is valued at $300 billion, Anthropic at $60 billion, and China’s Zhipu AI at $3 billion. Unlike its peers, DeepSeek stands out for its unique funding approach—entirely backed by profits from Liang’s quantitative hedge fund, H.F. Quant, with no external capital.

However, DeepSeek’s financial data remains highly confidential, creating widespread speculation about its revenue and capital structure. Bloomberg’s Billionaires Index estimates Liang owns 51% of H.F. Quant, worth $71 million. While notable, this figure pales compared to DeepSeek’s potential valuation.

Liang’s AI ambitions began in 2021 when he invested heavily in thousands of NVIDIA A100 GPUs—each priced at tens of thousands of dollars—to build a robust technical foundation for DeepSeek.
