Xiaomi YU7 Unveiled with a Range of Up to 820km

 

On February 17, the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) published its latest list of new energy vehicles eligible for purchase tax exemptions, which includes the Xiaomi YU7. The YU7 will come with two battery options, 96.3 kWh and 101.7 kWh, offering a maximum range of up to 820 kilometers.

 

In December of last year, Xiaomi officially announced that its upcoming SUV would be named the YU7, with a planned launch expected between June and July 2025. On February 8, Lei Jun, the CEO of Xiaomi, posted on social media that testing for the YU7 had begun, including winter highway long-distance tests focusing on autonomous driving and battery performance. Lei Jun himself completed a 1,310 km drive over 15 hours, mostly at highway speeds above 100 km/h, in temperatures as low as -10°C, with two stops for charging and rest.

 

Xiaomi’s automotive division exceeded expectations in 2024, delivering over 135,000 vehicles, far surpassing its original goal of 100,000. In January 2025, the company’s SU7 model surpassed 20,000 deliveries, continuing a four-month streak of deliveries over 20,000. Lei Jun has set a target of 300,000 vehicles for 2025, with plans to increase production capacity. Xiaomi also confirmed that the SU7 Ultra and Xiaomi 15 Ultra will be released by the end of February 2025, with the SU7 Ultra having an annual sales target of 10,000 units, priced at ¥814,900.

 

Research from Pacific Securities suggests that the Xiaomi YU7 will pose a strong challenge to the market leader, the Tesla Model Y, in 2025. Guoxin Securities notes that after the success of the SU7, Xiaomi is expected to release a sportier SUV in 2025. With strong market visibility, effective marketing, and solid product performance, Xiaomi is projected to achieve a sales goal of 300,000 vehicles in 2025, a 119% increase from the previous year.
