Net income for the quarter stood at $5,494 million, a significant 12% increase from the same period last year. Key Business Drivers
Several key segments contributed to Wells Fargo's performance. The Consumer Banking and Lending segment saw its total revenue increase by 2% year-over-year, reaching $9,228 million. This was primarily driven by a 7% increase in card fees, which totaled $1,109 million, reflecting increased activity and the acquisition of the remaining interest in their merchant services joint venture in April 2025. Home Lending’s mortgage banking revenue also rose by 25% to $169 million.
Commercial Banking revenue decreased by 6% year-over-year to $2,933 million, with net interest income down by 13%. However, noninterest income for the segment increased by 13%, largely due to a 12% rise in deposit-related fees. Corporate and Investment Banking experienced a 3% decline in total revenue, primarily due to a 13% decrease in noninterest income, specifically a 11% drop in net gains from trading activities, which reached $1,229 million. Wealth and Investment Management’s total revenue increased by 1% to $3,898 million, with investment advisory and other asset-based fees up 4%.
Credit Performance and Capital Position
The provision for credit losses for Q2 2025 was $1,005 million, a 19% decrease from Q2 2024. Net loan charge-offs decreased by 304 million year-over-year, reaching $997 million. The allowance for credit losses for loans was $14,568 million, a 1% decrease from the prior year. The company maintained a strong capital position with a Common Equity Tier 1 (CET1) ratio of 11.1% under the Standardized Approach, consistent with the previous quarter and above regulatory requirements.
