3M reported its second-quarter 2025 financial results, with GAAP sales reaching $6.3 billion, marking a 1.4% year-over-year increase. The company's GAAP EPS stood at $1.34, a decrease of 38% compared to the prior year. Adjusted sales were $6.2 billion with organic growth of 1.5% year-over-year, and adjusted EPS was $2.16, up 12% year-over-year. The reported revenue of $6.3 billion fell short of the analyst estimate of $6.05 billion, while the GAAP EPS of $1.34 missed the analyst EPS estimate of $2.01.

Operational Performance and Segment Highlights
In the second quarter, 3M delivered positive organic sales growth across all three business groups for the third consecutive quarter. The Safety and Industrial segment saw organic sales increase by 2.6%, contributing to a total sales change of 3.6%. Operating income for this segment grew to $721 million from $612 million in the prior year.
The Transportation and Electronics segment experienced an organic sales decline of 1.5%, resulting in a total sales change of (0.6%). Despite this, the segment's operating income increased to $462 million from $428 million year-over-year. The Consumer segment's organic sales saw a modest increase of 0.3%, with a total sales change of 0.6%, and its operating income rose to $268 million from $219 million.
Management Outlook and Guidance
William Brown, 3M Chairman and CEO, stated that the strong second-quarter results and solid performance in the first half of the year have led to increased full-year EPS guidance. The company now anticipates adjusted total sales growth in the range of approximately 2.5%, reflecting adjusted organic sales growth of roughly 2.0%.
The adjusted EPS guidance for the full year 2025 has been raised from $7.60 - $7.90 to $7.75 - $8.00. This updated guidance includes the expected impact of tariffs. Additionally, 3M projects adjusted operating cash flow to be between $5.1 billion and $5.5 billion, contributing to over 100% adjusted free cash flow conversion.
