Danaher Corporation reported Q2 2025 financial results, with revenue reaching $5,936 million, a 3.5% increase from $5,743 million in Q2 2024. Net income for the quarter was $555 million, down 38.8% from $907 million in the same period last year. Diluted earnings per share (EPS) stood at $0.77, falling short of the analyst estimate of $1.64, while revenue surpassed the estimate of $5,831,871,400. For the six-month period ended June 27, 2025, total revenues increased 1.0% compared to the prior year, primarily driven by higher core sales in the Biotechnology segment.

Key Business Drivers

In Q2 2025, Danaher's overall revenues increased 3.5%, with core sales rising 1.5% due to growth in the Biotechnology and Diagnostics segments, partially offset by a decline in the Life Sciences segment. The impact of foreign currency favorably increased reported sales by 2.0%. Geographically, developed markets saw a 5% increase in sales, driven by high-single-digit core sales increases in Western Europe, particularly in the Biotechnology and Diagnostics segments. However, sales and core sales in high-growth markets remained flat year-over-year, mainly due to a mid-single-digit decline in core revenue in China, which offset gains in other regions.

Segment Performance Highlights

The Biotechnology segment’s sales increased 8.0% to $1,850 million, driven by increased core sales, particularly in bioprocessing, due to improved consumables demand from large pharmaceutical customers in Western Europe. The Life Sciences segment’s sales saw a modest increase of 0.5% to $1,777 million, primarily due to an acquisition and favorable currency exchange rates, though core sales declined by 2.5%. This decline was largely attributed to lower funding levels at emerging biotechnology customers and reduced demand in the genomics consumables business. The Diagnostics segment reported a 2.0% increase in sales to $2,309 million, driven by increased core sales from higher consumables demand and growth in molecular diagnostics, particularly in non-respiratory tests.

Impairment Charges and Operating Profit

Net earnings were significantly impacted by impairment charges totaling $432 million pretax ($328 million after-tax) in Q2 2025, related to an indefinite-lived trade name within the Life Sciences segment. This impairment resulted from a reorganization and integration of certain businesses, combined with lower demand in the genomics market. Operating profit margins decreased 750 basis points to 12.8%, largely due to this impairment charge, which unfavorably impacted operating profit by 730 basis points. Additionally, incremental dilutive effects from acquired businesses further impacted profitability.

Management Outlook and Strategy

Danaher is actively addressing market conditions through strategic reorganizations and integrations, particularly within its Life Sciences segment, to better serve new market segments and improve efficiency. The company anticipates incurring incremental tariff costs for the full year 2025, which it largely expects to offset through manufacturing footprint changes, supply chain adjustments, surcharges, and productivity initiatives. The company’s continued investment in new product development and global expansion efforts, especially in high-growth markets, underscore its strategy to maintain competitiveness and drive long-term growth despite economic uncertainties and a highly regulated environment.
