BWX Technologies, Inc. (BWXT) reported strong financial results for the second quarter of 2025. The company's revenue reached $764.0 million, marking a 12% increase from $681.5 million in the prior-year quarter. Net income for the quarter was $78.5 million, an increase of 7% compared to $73.0 million in the same period last year. Diluted GAAP EPS was $0.85, surpassing the analyst estimate of $0.79. The company's performance was driven by solid operational execution and favorable market conditions, leading to a record backlog.

Segment Performance and Key Drivers

Revenue growth was observed across both operating segments. The Government Operations segment experienced a 9% increase in revenue to $589.0 million, primarily due to higher naval nuclear component production, special materials processing, and contributions from the acquisition of A.O.T. This was partially offset by lower microreactor volumes. The Commercial Operations segment saw a substantial 24% rise in revenue to $176.1 million, driven by increased revenue from commercial nuclear components, higher medical sales, and the acquisition of Kinectrics. This growth was somewhat mitigated by the timing of life-extension and outage projects, as well as lower fuel handling revenue.

Operating income for the Government Operations segment increased by 18% to $109.4 million, reflecting higher revenue and robust operational performance. Conversely, the Commercial Operations segment's operating income decreased by 59% to $6.9 million, mainly due to revenue mix shifts related to the timing of projects and growth investments. Consolidated adjusted EBITDA increased by 16% to $145.9 million, aligning with the overall positive trend in profitability.

Management Outlook and Strategic Actions

The company's management highlighted the accelerating demand for nuclear solutions across global security, clean energy, and medical markets. Rex D. Geveden, president and chief executive officer, emphasized BWXT's significant industrial scale and broad portfolio in the nuclear market, built over ten years as a standalone public company. Strategic investments in innovation and efficiency, along with deep technical expertise, underpin the company's capabilities in manufacturing, processing, and servicing nuclear solutions.

Based on strong year-to-date results and a favorable market outlook, BWXT is raising its 2025 financial guidance. The company now anticipates adjusted EBITDA of $565 million to $575 million, non-GAAP EPS of $3.65 to $3.75, and free cash flow of $275 million to $285 million. Additionally, BWXT closed the acquisition of Kinectrics, Inc. on May 20, 2025, and signed a pricing agreement for naval reactors and components, booking over $1.0 billion of the total $2.6 billion contract value. The company achieved a record backlog of $6.0 billion, a 70.2% increase year-over-year, indicating strong future revenue potential.
