AMD's Net Income Soars 229% in Strong Q2 2025
AMD announced its financial results for the second quarter of 2025, reporting a record $7.7 billion in revenue. This marks a significant 32% increase year-over-year from $5.835 billion in Q2 2024. The company's net income also saw substantial growth, reaching $872 million, an impressive 229% surge compared to $265 million in the same period last year. Diluted earnings per share (EPS) stood at $0.54.
Segment Performance Highlights
The company's strong performance was driven by several key segments. The Data Center segment reported $3.2 billion in revenue, a 14% year-over-year increase, primarily due to robust demand for AMD EPYC™ processors, despite headwinds from U.S. Government export controls impacting AMD Instinct™ MI308 shipments to China. The Client and Gaming segment demonstrated exceptional growth, with revenue up 69% year-over-year to $3.6 billion. Client revenue alone was a record $2.5 billion, boosted by strong demand for the latest "Zen 5" AMD Ryzen™ desktop processors and a richer product mix. Gaming revenue also saw a 73% increase, driven by semi-custom revenue and strong AMD Radeon™ GPU demand. Conversely, the Embedded segment revenue decreased 4% year-over-year to $824 million, as demand across end markets remained varied.
Strategic Developments and Outlook
AMD highlighted several strategic initiatives, including advancements in AI solutions with the introduction of AMD Instinct MI350 Series GPUs and systems, and the next-generation "Helios" rack-scale solution. Partnerships with industry leaders like HUMAIN, Red Hat, KDDI, Nokia, and Dell underscore AMD's expanding footprint in data center and AI infrastructure. The company also expanded its CPU and GPU portfolio for gamers, creators, and developers, and began shipments of the first AMD Spartan™ UltraScale+™ FPGA devices for embedded solutions. For the third quarter of 2025, AMD anticipates revenue of approximately $8.7 billion, plus or minus $300 million, representing approximately 28% year-over-year growth at the midpoint. This outlook does not include any revenue from AMD Instinct MI308 shipments to China, as license applications are currently under review by the U.S. Government.
