Sabesp Reports Strong Q2 2025 Profit Growth and Increased Investments

Sabesp (SBS.US) reported earnings of R$3.12 per share for Q2 2025, a significant increase from R$1.77 per share in the prior year. This performance, driven by new tariff rates, increased consumption, and new connections, exceeded the analyst EPS estimate of R$0.39.

Revenue Performance

Net revenue from sanitation services, excluding FAUSP, reached R$5,635 million in Q2 2025, marking a 2.9% increase compared to R$5,476 million in Q2 2024. This growth was primarily driven by a 5% increase in price, attributed to the 2024 tariff cycle carryover and the removal of discounts for large clients.

Volume also contributed positively, with a 4% increase in billed volume due to a 2% consumption increase and 1.5% from new connections. Despite these gains, a 3% negative impact from mix shifts, specifically the growth of economies with subsidized tariffs, partially offset the revenue growth.

Operational Efficiency and Investment

Operating expenses (OPEX) saw a substantial decrease of R$476 million, or 19%, in Q2 2025 compared to the previous year. This reduction was mainly due to R$399 million in general and administrative savings, including lower legal accruals and prepayments of municipal funds, as well as R$77 million in personnel expense reductions from an 11% headcount decrease.

Capital investments for the quarter totaled R$3,601 million, representing a 178% year-over-year increase, focused on infrastructure upgrades and expansion projects. These investments are directly aligned with the company’s universalization targets and demonstrate an accelerated pace of capital deployment.

Management Outlook

Management highlighted a strong performance driven by solid earnings growth and robust cash generation, attributing it to their efficiency journey. The accelerated investment pace, reaching R$3.6 billion this quarter, reflects a clear commitment to universalization and expanding access to clean water and sanitation.

The company emphasized its mission of transforming lives through infrastructure, noting that in the first year following privatization, they expanded access to clean water for over 1.3 million people and provided sewage treatment to more than 1.4 million.
