Advance Auto Parts (AAP.US) reported second quarter 2025 results, returning to profitability. The company posted net sales of $2.0 billion and an adjusted diluted earnings per share of $0.69. This compares to an analyst EPS estimate of $0.59, indicating the company exceeded expectations.

This financial performance marks a significant improvement from the prior year's second quarter, where net income from continuing operations was $31 million and adjusted diluted EPS was $0.62. The company's focus on operational efficiency and strategic initiatives appears to be yielding positive results.

Segment Performance Driven by Pro Business

Comparable store sales for the second quarter of 2025 increased by 0.1%. This growth was primarily fueled by the strong performance of the professional (Pro) business segment, with early signs of stabilization observed in the do-it-yourself (DIY) business.

Adjusted gross profit reached $0.9 billion, or 43.8% of net sales, an expansion from 43.6% in the prior year. This margin improvement was mainly driven by savings from footprint optimization activities, despite some offset from the reversal of previously capitalized inventory costs.

Strategic Actions and Management Outlook

Management highlighted the return to profitability as a key milestone, attributing it to decisive actions taken over the past year to create long-term shareholder value. The strategic plan is aimed at establishing a strong foundation for consistent delivery of exceptional customer service and sustained, profitable growth.

For the full year 2025, Advance Auto Parts has revised its adjusted diluted EPS guidance to between $1.20 and $2.20. This adjustment primarily reflects higher net interest expense due to a recent senior notes offering, while other guidance items remain unchanged, including comparable store sales of 0.5% to 1.5% and adjusted operating income margin of 2.00% to 3.00%.
