Meta Stock Nears 2 Trillion Dollars and New AI Hardware Could Push It Higher
$META, formerly Facebook, is getting close to a $2 trillion market value, with investors excited about its progress in artificial intelligence. A new AI-powered smart glasses device could be the next catalyst for a big move in the stock.
Meta’s Smart Glasses Strategy
Meta has already sold over 2 million Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses in partnership with Italian eyewear maker EssilorLuxottica. These glasses mainly handle photos, video, audio, and some basic AI features, but their capabilities are limited.

Now, Meta is preparing to release a more advanced device with a built-in display for augmented reality, code-named Hypernova. According to Bloomberg, the launch could happen next month, and the expected price is around $800, which makes it accessible to a wide audience.
Why Hardware Matters
Smart glasses are central to Meta’s plan to bring AI into everyday life beyond smartphones. CEO Mark Zuckerberg said in a company memo, “Devices like glasses that can see what we see, hear what we hear, and interact with us throughout the day will become our main computing devices.”
Meta currently holds 73% of the global smart glasses market. Ray-Ban Meta AI glasses shipments grew over 200% year-over-year, reflecting strong demand and increased production capacity. Meta recently invested about $3.5 billion in EssilorLuxottica to strengthen this partnership and compete with Google’s upcoming Android-based smart glasses.
AI Hardware is Becoming a Major Battleground
Meta isn’t the only company pursuing AI hardware:
-
Amazon acquired startup Bee, which makes a wearable bracelet that records daily conversations, transcribes them, and uses AI to create to-do lists and reminders.
-
OpenAI spent $6.4 billion to acquire a startup founded by Apple’s former design chief Jony Ive, targeting new AI devices to complement smartphones and computers.
Meta is ahead for now, having already released AI-equipped hardware and planning to scale up quickly.
Stock Performance and Investment Outlook
Meta shares were $780 at Friday’s close, up 34% for the year. If the stock closes at $796.13 or above, Meta will reach a $2 trillion market value for the first time.
A successful launch of Hypernova could not only generate new revenue but also cement Meta’s leadership in AI hardware and push the stock higher.
My Take
Meta’s opportunity lies in combining AI and hardware in daily life. Smart glasses have the potential to become the next generation of personal computing devices, taking AI out of the phone and into real-world interaction.
Short-term investors should watch:
-
Product launch and adoption: Can Hypernova meet expectations and gain users quickly?
-
Competition: How will Google, Amazon, and OpenAI affect market share?
-
Integration with Meta’s ecosystem: How well glasses, smartphones, and cloud services work together will determine long-term revenue and profitability.
Overall, Meta is leading in AI hardware. If it maintains innovation and scale, its long-term potential looks strong, though short-term stock moves could still be volatile around product updates and market sentiment.
