ZIM (ZIM.US) reported Q2 2025 revenues of $1.64 billion and net income of $24 million. This represents a 15% year-over-year decrease in revenues and a substantial decline in net income compared to $373 million in Q2 2024. Adjusted diluted earnings per share was $0.19, falling short of the analyst estimate of $1.50.

Key Business Drivers

ZIM's financial performance in Q2 2025 was primarily affected by a decrease in freight rates and carried volume. The company carried 895 thousand TEUs, a 6% year-over-year decrease from 952 thousand TEUs in Q2 2024. The average freight rate per TEU also declined by 12% to $1,479 from $1,674 in the prior year's second quarter.

Adjusted EBITDA for the second quarter was $472 million, a 38% decrease year-over-year, and Adjusted EBIT was $149 million, down from $488 million in Q2 2024. These declines highlight the impact of reduced revenues and freight rates on profitability. Despite the challenging market, ZIM emphasized its upscaled capacity, improved cost structure, and agile commercial strategy as key strengths.

Management Outlook

ZIM's management increased the midpoints of its full-year 2025 guidance ranges, signaling confidence in future performance. The company now expects to generate Adjusted EBITDA between $1.8 billion and $2.2 billion, and Adjusted EBIT between $550 million and $950 million. This revision reflects an optimistic outlook based on ZIM's transformed fleet and improved cost structure, despite unpredictable market dynamics.

CEO Eli Glickman highlighted the company's commitment to operational excellence and growing diversification in its geographic footprint to drive business resilience. ZIM aims to create long-term value for shareholders by focusing on controlling controllable aspects in the volatile market environment.
