Paychex Reports Strong Q1 2026 Revenue Growth, Raises Earnings Outlook
Paychex (PAYX.US) commenced fiscal 2026 with robust performance, reporting total revenue of $1.54 billion for the first quarter ended August 31, 2025. This marks a significant 17% increase compared to the prior year period. Adjusted diluted earnings per share also saw a positive rise of 5%, reaching $1.22, surpassing the analyst estimate of $1.21 per share.

Segment Performance Driven by Acquisitions and Client Growth
The company's strong revenue growth was primarily fueled by its Management Solutions and PEO and Insurance Solutions segments. Management Solutions revenue grew by 21% to $1.2 billion, with approximately 17% of this growth attributed to the Paycor acquisition. This was further bolstered by an increase in clients served and higher revenue per client due to Paycor's upmarket client base, price realization, and product penetration.
PEO and Insurance Solutions revenue also contributed positively, increasing by 3% to $329.1 million. This growth was mainly driven by an increase in the number of average PEO worksite employees and higher PEO insurance revenues. Additionally, interest on funds held for clients surged by 27% to $47.6 million, benefiting from higher average investment balances following the Paycor acquisition.
Adjusted Operating Income Shows Solid Expansion
While reported operating income saw a slight decrease, adjusted operating income, which excludes Paycor acquisition-related costs, grew by 15% to $626.7 million for the first quarter. This indicates healthy underlying operational performance. The adjusted operating margin stood at 40.7%.
Raised Full Year Earnings Outlook
Building on these strong first-quarter results, Paychex has updated its business outlook for fiscal 2026. The company now anticipates adjusted diluted earnings per share to grow in the range of 9% to 11%. This optimistic outlook incorporates current assumptions and market conditions, reflecting confidence in continued performance, though it excludes acquisition-related costs.
