Tonight’s Highlights | U.S. Stock Index Futures Rebound Strongly, Chip and Rare Earth Stocks Lead Gains
On Monday, U.S. stock index futures rose collectively pre-market.

As of this report, Dow Jones futures gained 0.89%, S&P 500 futures rose 1.16%, and Nasdaq 100 futures climbed 1.65%.
Chip stocks surged, with Nvidia up nearly 3% pre-market, Broadcom up over 3%, AMD and ASML up nearly 4%, and Micron Technology and TSMC up ~5%.
Other tech giants also advanced: Apple, Microsoft, Meta, Amazon, Oracle, and Palantir rose over 1%, Tesla gained over 2%, and Alibaba jumped nearly 5%.
Rare earth stocks soared, with MP Materials up over 8%; crypto-related stocks rebounded, with Coinbase up 1.8%; nuclear tech firm Oklo rose over 7%, up nearly 6x YTD.
The prior trading day saw the major U.S. indices plunge, with tech stocks dragging the Nasdaq Composite down 3.56%.
Piper Sandler strategist Craig Johnson noted that the breadth of market gains is showing early signs of fatigue, potentially leading to a consolidation phase.
Meanwhile, the ongoing U.S. government shutdown poses risks. Reports indicate layoffs have begun at the Treasury, Education, Health and Human Services, Commerce, and Homeland Security departments, impacting ~4,200 employees.
On Tuesday, JPMorgan Chase, Goldman Sachs, Citigroup, and Wells Fargo will report Q3 earnings.
U.S. Bank Wealth Management CIO Eric Friedman said that while investors tolerated vague guidance in prior quarters, they may not be as lenient this time.
European markets in session were mixed: Germany’s DAX rose 0.19%, the UK’s FTSE 100 fell 0.09%, and France’s CAC 40 gained 0.23%.

Microsoft: Windows 10 Support Ends October 14
Microsoft will halt security updates and technical support for Windows 10 starting October 14, leaving many users’ PCs vulnerable to cyberattacks. While Windows 10 devices can still run, they’ll miss regular security updates, and some app functionality may degrade.
Microsoft urges upgrading to Windows 11, but older PCs may not meet the hardware requirements. Users can pay $30 or 1,000 Microsoft Rewards points for the Extended Security Update program to reduce malware and cybersecurity risks.
