Abbott (ABT.US) announced its financial results for the third quarter ended September 30, 2025, with adjusted diluted EPS reaching $1.30, compared to $1.21 in the prior year quarter, marking a 7.4% year-over-year increase. The company's total reported sales for Q3 2025 were $11.369 billion, an increase of 6.9% compared to $10.635 billion in Q3 2024. This performance aligns with the analyst EPS estimate of $1.30, while revenue of $11.369 billion was below the analyst estimate of $11.393 billion.

Strong Medical Devices and Nutrition Growth

Abbott's Medical Devices segment showed robust performance, with sales increasing 14.8% on a reported basis and 12.5% organically in the third quarter. This growth was driven by double-digit increases across Diabetes Care, Electrophysiology, Rhythm Management, Heart Failure, and Structural Heart. Specifically, Diabetes Care, fueled by continuous glucose monitors, saw sales of $2.0 billion, growing 20.5% on a reported basis.

The Nutrition segment also contributed positively, with worldwide sales increasing 4.2% on a reported basis and 4.0% organically. This was primarily led by strong growth in Adult Nutrition, which saw sales increase 5.8% on a reported basis. Key brands like Ensure® and Glucerna® were significant contributors to this performance.

Diagnostics Performance and Emerging Markets

Global Diagnostics sales, while decreasing 6.6% on a reported basis and 7.8% organically, showed a 0.4% increase when excluding COVID-19 testing-related sales. COVID-19 testing-related sales were $69 million in the quarter, a significant drop from $265 million in the prior year. Despite challenging market conditions in China, including the impact of volume-based procurement programs, Global Core Laboratory Diagnostics sales increased 3.8% on a reported basis and 2.2% organically.

The Established Pharmaceuticals segment delivered solid growth, with sales increasing 7.5% on a reported basis and 7.1% organically. This was largely propelled by a 10.3% reported and 11.1% organic growth in Key Emerging Markets, driven by strong double-digit growth across several countries in Asia, Latin America, and the Middle East.

Management Outlook and Strategic Developments

Abbott reaffirmed its full-year 2025 organic sales growth guidance of 7.5% to 8.0%, excluding COVID-19 testing-related sales, or 6.0% to 7.0% including these sales. The company also reaffirmed the midpoint of its previously provided full-year 2025 adjusted diluted EPS guidance range and narrowed the range to $5.12 to $5.18, reflecting double-digit growth at the midpoint. This outlook underscores management's confidence in the company's continued performance and strategic direction.

Strategic advancements in the quarter include regulatory approval in Japan for TriClip®, a minimally invasive treatment for tricuspid regurgitation, and CE Mark for an expanded indication for the Navitor® transcatheter aortic valve implantation system. New treatment guidelines issued at the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) Congress also provided additional support for the use of MitraClip® and TriClip in treating valvular heart disease, further solidifying Abbott's position in innovative medical devices.
