The Netherlands Vehicle Authority (RDW) announced stricter rules to ensure safe evacuation after collisions and accessibility for emergency responders. RDW, which approves Tesla vehicles for EU sales, found that Tesla doors could fail to open during power loss, trapping occupants, even in fire cases.

RDW stated, “Doors must always be openable, from inside by occupants and outside by rescuers, regardless of power status. The committee is addressing loopholes due to new door designs.”
