Following gold’s overnight surge past the $4,300 mark, it has once again set a new record: becoming the first global asset to exceed a total market value of $30 trillion.

On Thursday, multiple precious metals market experts noted that, according to CompaniesMarketCap data, with gold prices repeatedly hitting historic highs, its total market value has now surpassed $30 trillion, leading the global asset market value rankings by a wide margin.

This figure is calculated by the World Gold Council using the total amount of mined gold and real-time gold prices. According to the Council’s latest data from earlier this year, the global total of mined gold is approximately 216,265 tons—1 ton of gold equals roughly 32,150.7 ounces.

This milestone not only reflects gold’s enduring appeal as a safe-haven asset but also underscores the renewed favor among global investors for “hard currency” assets amid the current backdrop of inflation and geopolitical risks.

In terms of market value comparison, if we stack gold’s total market value against global corporate giants, gold could easily “outmatch ten of them.” Its market value exceeds the combined market cap of the top ten stocks—Nvidia, Microsoft, Apple, Alphabet, Amazon, Meta, Broadcom, Saudi Aramco, TSMC, and Tesla ($25.3 trillion).

Year-to-date, gold prices have surged over 60%, fueled by geopolitical tensions, aggressive rate-cut expectations, central bank buying, de-dollarization trends, and significant inflows into gold-backed exchange-traded funds (ETFs).

Looking ahead, the precious metals market clearly has the potential to hit more new records…

From a weekly perspective, gold is poised to achieve a ninth consecutive week of gains. Historically, since at least the 1970s, gold prices have never recorded ten straight weeks of gains, making next week a critical test to see if gold can break through this “glass ceiling.”

Additionally, with silver prices recently hitting record highs, the global silver market’s total value is now approaching the $3 trillion mark.

Some market observers are also increasingly optimistic about the future value and financial attributes of gold.

Jeroen Blokland, founder of the Blokland Smart Multi-Asset Fund, stated on social media that, when measured against fiat currencies, gold’s rise has indeed delivered impressive returns. However, gold’s true “mission” goes beyond short-term gains.

Its ultimate value lies in reshaping the financial system, restoring trust lost in debt-driven economies—a role it has played multiple times in history. Gold will lead the return to a sound monetary system, where value itself becomes the cornerstone of trust, rather than relying on the fragile credibility of central banks and governments.

In fact, gold’s true benchmark may not be tech giants but the staggering global money supply and ever-growing debt levels…
