Brent Crude Down 1.9%, Market Weighing Russia Sanctions vs. OPEC+ Production Increase Plans

Brent crude contracts fell about 1.9% on Tuesday and are on track for a third straight decline. Investors are assessing the impact of U.S. sanctions on Russia’s two largest oil companies on global supply, as well as potential OPEC+ production increase plans.

“Traders are weighing U.S.-China trade negotiation progress against the broader supply outlook,” ANZ said in a morning report.

Brent and WTI crude recorded their largest weekly gains since June last week in response to U.S. President Trump’s first Ukraine-related sanctions in his second term, targeting Lukoil and Rosneft.

Germany’s economy minister said the U.S. government has provided written assurance that Rosneft’s German operations will be exempt from sanctions because these assets are no longer under Russian control.
