DUK Reports Q3 2025 Adjusted EPS of $1.81, Exceeding Analyst Estimates and Narrows 2025 Guidance
Duke Energy (DUK.US) announced third-quarter 2025 adjusted EPS of $1.81, surpassing analyst estimates of $1.74. This represents an over 11% increase compared to the adjusted EPS of $1.62 reported in the third quarter of 2024. The company's performance for the third quarter ended September 30, 2025, reflects solid growth and strategic execution.
Segment Performance Drives Growth
The Electric Utilities and Infrastructure segment was a primary contributor to the strong financial results, with adjusted segment income reaching $1,658 million in Q3 2025, up from $1,464 million in Q3 2024. This increase was largely attributed to the implementation of new rates and riders, alongside higher retail sales volumes. However, these gains were partially offset by milder weather and increased interest expense and depreciation.
Conversely, the Gas Utilities and Infrastructure segment reported an adjusted segment loss of $26 million in Q3 2025, compared to a $22 million loss in Q3 2024. While growth from rate increases helped, this was negated by higher operations and maintenance expenses and increased depreciation on a growing asset base. The 'Other' segment also saw a lower adjusted result of $225 million in losses, primarily due to higher interest expense.
Management Outlook and Capital Plans
Management has narrowed its 2025 adjusted EPS guidance range to $6.25 to $6.35 and reaffirmed its long-term adjusted EPS growth rate of 5% to 7% through 2029, based on the 2025 midpoint of $6.30. The company anticipates earning in the top half of this range starting in 2028. This positive outlook is supported by ongoing economic development and increasing capital investment plans.
Duke Energy expects to announce a new five-year capital plan between $95 billion and $105 billion in February, indicating a substantial increase in investment. This strategic capital allocation is aimed at advancing energy modernization while prioritizing customer value and affordability. The company remains focused on managing costs to keep customer rates below the national average and ensuring service reliability at a fair price.
