Alibaba (BABA.US) Reports Q3 2025 Revenue and EPS Below Analyst Expectations Amid Strategic Investments
Alibaba (BABA.US) announced its unaudited consolidated results for the quarter ended September 30, 2025 (Q3 2025), reporting revenue of RMB247,795 million (US$34,808 million), a 5% year-over-year increase. However, this figure fell short of the analyst estimate of $40,748 million. Non-GAAP diluted earnings per ADS stood at RMB4.36 (US$0.61), representing a significant 71% decrease year-over-year and missing the analyst estimate of $0.66.

Key Business Drivers
The company continued to make strategic investments in AI technologies and infrastructure, as well as its consumption platform. The Cloud Intelligence Group demonstrated strong performance, with revenue growing 34% year-over-year, and AI-related product revenue experiencing triple-digit growth for the ninth consecutive quarter.
In the consumption business, quick commerce scaled significantly, showing improved unit economics and driving rapid growth in monthly active consumers on the Taobao app. Customer management revenue increased by 10% year-over-year to RMB78,927 million (US$11,087 million), primarily due to an improved take rate and increased penetration of Quanzhantui.
Profitability Impact from Strategic Investments
Non-GAAP net income for Q3 2025 decreased by 72% year-over-year to RMB10,352 million (US$1,454 million). This decline was primarily attributed to substantial investments in quick commerce, user experiences, and technology, which are aimed at future growth. The company's free cash flow also saw an outflow of RMB21,840 million (US$3,068 million), compared to an inflow in the prior year, mainly due to increased cloud infrastructure expenditure and quick commerce investments.
Share Repurchase Program
During the quarter, Alibaba repurchased 17 million ordinary shares (equivalent to approximately 2 million ADSs) for a total of US$253 million under its share repurchase program. As of September 30, 2025, the remaining authorization for the program, effective through March 2027, was US$19.1 billion.
