Tonight's Highlights | US Futures Edge Higher as NVIDIA Gains Premarket
On Thursday, US stock index futures rose slightly as investors digested the latest earnings from AI chip leader NVIDIA. Major European indices were mostly trading in positive territory.
In the previous session, the three major US indices closed higher, with the S&P 500 up 0.8%, the Nasdaq rising approximately 1.3%, and the Dow gaining 0.6%.
NVIDIA shares climbed over 1% in premarket trading after the company posted fourth-quarter earnings and revenue that beat analyst estimates. The report arrives as Wall Street grapples with heightened anxiety over the sustainability of AI investment and the potential threat AI poses to various sectors, including software—factors that have rattled markets this month.
Conversely, Salesforce shares tumbled 3% premarket following disappointing revenue guidance for fiscal 2027. Salesforce has recently been among the companies hardest hit by concerns over AI-driven disruption.
Abigail Yoder, US equity strategist at J.P. Morgan Global Wealth Management, noted: "From a current standpoint, earnings estimate revisions for the software industry over the next one to two years remain positive." She added that the primary debate isn't about immediate earnings, but rather "terminal value" and how the market prices long-term valuation in the face of AI.
