"Largest IPO in History" Gains Momentum! SpaceX Reportedly Set to File as Early as This Week
The long-awaited public debut of Elon Musk’s rocket and communications giant, SpaceX, is nearing reality, with new details emerging on what is poised to become the largest initial public offering in history.
According to sources familiar with the matter cited by media reports, SpaceX plans to submit its IPO prospectus to regulators late this week or next, targeting a listing as early as June of this year.
Financial advisors involved in the preparations expect the company to raise over $75 billion in the offering, significantly higher than previous market estimates of $500 billion. The report noted that the allocation for retail investors could exceed 20%, though this figure has not been finalized.
Earlier this month, sources revealed that SpaceX leans toward listing on the Nasdaq. However, the company is reportedly seeking an early inclusion into the Nasdaq 100 Index, a move it views as a prerequisite for its debut on that exchange.
While best known for its launch vehicles and satellite constellations, SpaceX’s business footprint has expanded drastically. Last month, Musk completed the merger of SpaceX and his AI venture, xAI, creating a combined entity with a valuation of $1.25 trillion.
In a memorandum at the time, Musk wrote that the transaction creates "the most ambitious vertically integrated innovation engine on Earth (and beyond), spanning AI, rocketry, space-based internet, direct-to-cell communications, and the world’s leading real-time information and speech platform."
In early 2026, SpaceX filed an application with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to deploy up to one million satellites. The initiative aims to build the world’s first "orbital data center network," providing space-based computing power for AI models. Musk recently claimed that SpaceX's future achievements in AI would "surpass the sum of all other companies."
The potential scale of SpaceX's financing would shatter all previous IPO records. Currently, the global record is held by oil titan Saudi Aramco, which raised $29.4 billion in 2019.
An IPO of this magnitude will serve as a rare litmus test for investor appetite. If the fundraising target is met, it would far exceed the total proceeds of the entire U.S. IPO market last year. According to data from Renaissance Capital, there were 202 U.S. IPOs in 2025, raising a total of $44 billion.
Furthermore, the SpaceX IPO is expected to pave the way for Musk to become the world’s first trillionaire. According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, Musk’s current net worth stands at approximately $652 billion.
