Semiconductor equipment giant Applied Materials (AMAT) reported its fiscal first-quarter 2026 results after the bell on Thursday.

The report reveals that as global tech titans aggressively scale up data centers and AI infrastructure, demand for chipmaking equipment has reached a fever pitch.

This momentum propelled the company to a record-breaking quarter and fueled a highly confident outlook for the coming period.

Applied Materials Posts Stellar Results

In the first quarter of fiscal 2026, Applied Materials' performance comfortably outpaced analyst estimates compiled by LSEG:

  • Revenue: $7.91 billion, an 11.4% year-over-year increase, beating the anticipated $7.7 billion.

  • Non-GAAP EPS: $2.86, exceeding the consensus estimate of $2.68 by 6.6%.

The company also issued exceptionally bullish guidance for the next quarter:

  • Revenue Outlook: Midpoint of $8.95 billion (plus or minus $500 million), 9.2% higher than the $8.2 billion analysts expected.

  • Adjusted EPS Outlook: Projected at $3.36 (plus or minus 20 cents), far surpassing the average forecast of $2.88.

"Applied Materials delivered record quarterly results, and we expect our semiconductor equipment business to grow more than 30% in fiscal 2026," wrote Gary Dickerson, President and CEO, in the earnings statement.

AI Boom Ignites Equipment Demand

The ongoing AI wave is providing a massive tailwind for equipment suppliers like Applied Materials.

As tech giants ramp up investments in AI computing, chipmakers such as TSMC and Samsung are forced to expand manufacturing capacity.

This has spiked demand for Applied’s advanced tools used in the fabrication and packaging of cutting-edge processors.

During the earnings call, CEO Gary Dickerson noted, "With demand continuing to grow and customers gaining a clearer view of the long-term horizon, we see an exceptionally solid foundation for multi-year revenue and profit growth."

The company anticipates that its semiconductor equipment business will grow by over 30% in fiscal 2026, while advanced packaging revenue is expected to surge by more than 50%.

William Kerwin, a senior equity analyst at Morningstar, remarked that the strong results and forecasts reflect an "intensifying AI cycle for wafer fabrication equipment investment."

CFO Brice Hill added that to ensure operational and supply chain readiness, the company has ramped up construction plans, inventory levels, and logistics capacity to keep pace with the surge.$AMAT
