U.S. index futures advanced across the board on Monday, buoyed by retreating crude benchmarks and growing optimism ahead of high-level U.S.-China bilateral talks later this week, with Nasdaq 100 futures gaining 1%. Major European benchmarks posted broad-based gains.

A primary catalyst driving early momentum was a pullback in energy prices. International benchmark Brent crude futures dropped over 2%, trading just above $101 per barrel.

Despite renewed tensions in the Middle East, markets saw potential room for diplomatic engagement between Washington and Tehran. President Donald Trump indicated he may be open to meeting with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on the sidelines of this week's United Nations General Assembly.

JPMorgan analysts also recently highlighted that underlying oil flows have proven "surprisingly resilient" despite recent logistical disruptions.

Treasury yields eased alongside oil. The benchmark 10-year Treasury yield fell more than 3 basis points to 4.957%, while the 30-year yield dropped more than 3 basis points to 5.294%.

The moves follow the Federal Reserve’s decision last week to deliver its first rate hike in three years against a backdrop of stubborn inflation and elevated debt yields.

"Higher energy prices for longer strengthen the case for continued monetary tightening," Ed Yardeni, President of Yardeni Research, wrote in a strategy note Monday.

Yardeni cautioned that supply-side risks have far from dissipated, noting that regional hostilities "continue to threaten crude production and shipping lines, while Ukrainian drone strikes against Russian refining facilities and international sanctions further constrain global fuel supplies."

"The longer this energy shock persists, the greater the risk of second-round inflation effects," Yardeni added.
