Criteria for inclusion assess factors such as a minimum asset base, sufficient trading volume, attractive yield compared to the wider market, their trading price relative to Net Asset Value (NAV) – specifically focusing on discounts – and an upper limit of 6% on the expense ratio. Subsequently, eligible CEFs are ranked according to a composite score, with the highest-scoring 30 selected for inclusion in the index.
